Does Your Child Have Difficulty Eating?

Is your child a severely picky eater? Do they gag, tantrum, or refuse to eat during meal times? Do they have difficulty swallowing, choke when eating, or get pneumonia often?

Does your child exhibit frequent vomiting? Is your child having difficulty transitioning off of bottle feeding? Does your child have oral motor structure issues that make eating difficult? Has mealtime become a battle in your home?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, your child may benefit from feeding therapy with a licensed speech pathologist. There may be many reasons for feeding difficulties including:

  • Sensory processing deficits associated with diagnoses such as Sensory Processing Disorder and Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Motor deficits associated with neurological diagnoses such as Cerebral Palsy or Stroke
  • Structural differences associated with Cleft palate, Low Muscle Tone

Our feeding therapists can help ease stressful mealtimes.  There are many different approaches to feeding therapy including sensory, motor, and behavioral models. Finding a good fit for your child is imperative. At HTR Pediatric Therapy, we offer developmental feeding services to address feeding issues.

Our speech therapists take a comprehensive approach targeting increased oral motor skills, desensitization to oral aversions, expanding food repertoire, use of sensory integration techniques and social experiences associated with eating.
